Now before you look too close, the image is made up of pieces of different scans (four of them). I had a hell of a time putting this together as it's nearly A2 (UK) and I've only got an A4 scanner! So squint when you're looking at it and it looks fine ;-)

This is a poster I was asked to put together for a personal collection.

The collector really liked a story in Star Wars Tales Volume 3 entitled Resurrection (Script: Ron Marz, Pencils: Rick Leonardi, Inks: Terry Austin, Colours: Raul Treviño, letters: Steve Dutro Published by Dark Horse Comics http://www.darkhorsecomics.com). So I put together a montage to pay homage to the guys at Dark Horse who do an amazing Job of capturing Star Wars. If you've (by some strange reason) not read any of their Star Wars graphic novels, now is the time to start. I recommend buying the collections as you get the complete story sets. Any case I put this together to draw the tension created between the two great disciples of the Dark Side.

I started in pencil, then inked the outlines and then used a wash-type marker pen and built up layers, particularly on Maul's face and Vader's helmet. I had to draw several sketches first to work out how to construct the the composition and whilst not wanting to simply plagiarize a page from a comic book I thought about each of the frames and try to choose elements that showed the heat of battle but did not give away much of the story line.

I had a great time doing this and I'm keen to product another montage for someone who wants their favorite characters together. If commissioned though I would not work from copyrighted artwork unless permission is granted. But, that's great as it means you can pose your characters how you want them! Let me know.
